During my travels in Indonesia, I spent one month in Jogjakarta attending several Islamic lectures, all conducted in the local language, Bahasa, as there was not much use of English. However, the poor internet connectivity and frequent power outages made it challenging to stay connected with the outside world. Additionally, I found it difficult to assimilate and mix with the locals due to language barriers. Later, I spent a month in Bekasi, a suburb of Jakarta, where I faced similar challenges. Despite meeting a few potential marriage candidates, none seemed suitable. Furthermore, my visa was soon to expire, adding to the uncertainty of my situation.
Making the decision to leave one's current life and embark on a new journey towards a better Islamic lifestyle, known as hijrah, is a major step that requires careful consideration, planning, and courage. This decision is usually influenced by various factors, such as the desire to strengthen one's faith, to live in an environment that supports and nourishes Islamic values, to escape from the negative influences of society, or to seek better opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.
